25 years ago today the Smashing Pumpkins took the stage for the 1st time. Billy played bass, James played guitar and they used a drum machine. The band line up, of course, would later change. The next two shows included D’arcy, who took over bass. Billy switched to playing guitar alongside James and the drum machine was retained. For the 4th show, the band let the drum machine go and added Jimmy to the line-up for their first show at the Metro on October 5th, 1988.
Since then, band members have come and gone, but the band lives on with Billy Corgan still at the head with wonderful people he trusts.
Billy tweeted the following this morning:
I think I’ve got math right this year. Today is 25th anniv of 1st SP show. My thanks to all for an amazing run
