The passing of Dennis Flemion of The Frogs

We are saddened to report that drummer Dennis Flemion of The Frogs passed away this weekend. The Frogs are perhaps best known to Smashing Pumpkins fans from a segment on Vieuphoria called “MEET THE FROGS / the world’s greatest band“.

Dennis made a number of contributions to the Smashing Pumpkins over the years. After the death of touring keyboardist Jonathan Melvoin, Dennis was asked to fill in for the rest of the Infinite Sadness tour from August 1996 to February 1997. He was also credited on the Pumpkins’ “Medellia of the Gray Skies” for additional instruments, as well as on “To Sheila” and “Behold! The Night Mare” for additional vocals. Dennis has also been credited on the Pearl Jam song Smile off of their No Code album.

Over the years, Billy Corgan has played with The Frogs a number of times live on stage, and The Frogs have returned the favor by playing with the Pumpkins at their closing show on December 2nd, 2000 at the Metro. More recently, The Frogs opened for the Pumpkins at the Aragon Ballroom, in Chicago, IL during a 2008 stop.

Billy Corgan said on twitter “I’m devastated by the loss of my friend Dennis Flemion. Words can’t explain the sorrow. A tragic loss. Please pray for his family.”

The Frogs digitally released Count Yer Blessingsz and Squirrel Bunny Jupiter Deluxe on iTunes on the 1st of July. For more on The Frogs, check out their YouTube account, their Facebook Page and Official Website.

UPDATE: Dennis brother Jimmy comments on his brother passing “Dennis was the most kind, sensitive and giving soul. He among all was unquestionably a true uncompromising artist, a visionary who instinctively understood greatness. A genius whose and art must and will be remembered. A perfectionist whose sole purpose was lasting beauty….As my older brother, I looked up to him and followed for I was certain he knew the way. I now know that true now more than ever… He wouldn’t ever want anyone to be sad. He brought so much beauty and joy and laughter. My wish for you all is to celebrate his life and in his words, count yer blessings.
Love and Blessingsz, Jimmy”
